Steven Gerrard likened Jesse Lingard to David Beckham after the midfiedler’s assist in Manchester United’s 2-0 win at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils eased to a comfortable win against the Baggies at The Hawthorns after Lingard teed up Zlatan Ibrahimovic broke the deadlock with a pinpoint cross in the fifth minute.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder started just his eighth Premier League game of the season at West Brom after Juan Mata and Wayne Rooney struggled on the wing at Crystal Palace mid-week.

Former Liverpool captain Gerrard was impressed with Lingard’s crossing ability after Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over the Baggies.

“Don’t underestimate how difficult that cross is [for Ibrahimovic’s opener at West Brom]. It’s on the bounce, he’s running at full pace… it’s Beckham-esque,” Gerrard told BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show.

The Red Devils are in sixth place in the Premier League table after their third successive top-flight victory.

Manchester United are 13 points behind leaders Chelsea after 17 games in the 2016-17 season.
