Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he is a big fan of Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil
Steven Gerrard has revealed that he would have liked to play with Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil during his career.
The former Liverpool captain called time on his playing career last month following the end of LA Galaxy’s Major League Soccer campaign.
Ozil has made a promising start to the 2016-17 season after a return of four goals and two assists in 13 Premier League appearances.
The Germany international has been in sparkling form in the Champions League as the Gunners finished top of Group A.
The former Real Madrid star has netted four goals and has made three assists in six Champions League games so far this season.
Speaking on BT Sport ahead of Arsenal’s 4-1 victory over Basel on Tuesday night, Gerrard explained why he is an admirer of Ozil.
“I love him,” Gerrard said. “He’s the type of player you would have liked to have played with during your career. A lot of assists, a lot of magic…
“I think he’s an easy target when it goes wrong for Arsenal because he’s so relaxed and casual.
“He looks great when they win but when they get beat he’s the easy target.”
Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table and three points behind leaders Chelsea after 14 top-flight games.
