Paul Merson states prediction for Sunderland v Chelsea

The Arsenal legend doesn't expect Chelsea to slip up against Sunderland on Wednesday night

Paul Merson is confident Chelsea will record their tenth successive Premier League victory on Wednesday night when the Blues make the trip to Sunderland.

The west London side were 1-0 winners against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon after Diego Costa scored a second-half winner at Stamford Bridge thanks to his superb solo goal.

Chelsea have scored 23 times and have kept seven clean sheets in their last nine Premier League games to leave the Blues three points clear at the top of the table after 15 fixtures.

Antonio Conte’s side have managed to beat title rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during that run to underline their status as title favourites.

Chelsea will take on relegation favourites Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday night as the Blues look to notch up a tenth successive Premier League win.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Wednesday night’s clash in north east England, Merson explained why he expects Chelsea to win:

“Didier NDong will be a miss for Sunderland through suspension as he is the engine in their team. They had a shocking result against Swansea and I can’t see anything other than a Chelsea win,” Merson said.

“Chelsea are having to work hard for their wins and West Brom were a bit unlucky not to get anything at the weekend. But Chelsea have champagne moments in their team and they are rock solid at the back.”
