Thibaut Courtois delivers verdict on Chelsea’s title prospects: We can keep the run going
The Chelsea goalkeeper urges his team-mates not to think too far ahead in the Premier League title race
Thibaut Courtois has spoken of his confidence that Chelsea can extend their winning run in the Premier League title race.
The Belgium international hasn’t conceded a goal in Chelsea’s last four Premier League games to help Antonio Conte’s side move six points clear of second-place Liverpool in the title race after 18 games.
The Blues eased to a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day courtesy of goals from Pedro Rodriguez either side of half-time and Eden Hazard’s second-half penalty.
Chelsea have won their last 12 Premier League games to set a new club record ahead of the visit of Mark Hughes’s Stoke City side at Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve.
The west London outfit have beaten title rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur during their impressive run.
Looking ahead to Chelsea’s next five Premier League fixtures, Courtois insisted that Antonio Conte’s side can make it 18 successive top-flight victories in a row.
“In the Premier League things go really fast,” Courtois told Chelsea’s website.
“So we just have to keep the focus on ourselves and play game by game and then we will see. Stoke at home will be hard and then we go to Tottenham, to Leicester, they are all tough games, and after we have Hull, Liverpool and Arsenal.
“So it is an important moment for us and then we will see where we stand in February. If we keep our concentration on doing what we have to do then we can keep the run going.”
Chelsea finished in tenth place last term.
