Thibaut Courtois lifts lid on Chelsea’s start to life under Antonio Conte
Thibaut Courtois delivers his verdict on Chelsea's start to the season under Antonio Conte
Thibaut Courtois has heaped praise on Antonio Conte for implementing the tactical system which has allowed Chelsea to make such a strong start to the season.
The Blues have earned plenty of praise in recent weeks for their impressive performances to help them top the Premier League table head into this weekend’s round of games.
The west London side came from a goal down to beat Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge last weekend as they stretched their winning run in the Premier League to seven games.
Chelsea have looked far more solid in recent weeks and it is in stark contrast to their stuttering form last season, when they ended up 10th in the table.
And Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois admits that he is feeling completely comfortable with the new tactical system implemented at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Saturday’s clash with Manchester City, Courtois said: “I think it’s the system. It not only gives cover for the goalkeeper, in general it’s a good system.
“When one guy can drop down and you can still have four at the back, when one guy can put pressure high up and you still have a solid shape that’s quite good.
“We’ve played it a few times with Belgium now too and it’s a system that’s very hard to play against. In the summer we were working on another system.
“It was after the Arsenal game that we decided to go to three at the back. Since then we have trained it constantly.”
Chelsea ended up 10th and without a trophy last season after Jose Mourinho’s sacking back in December 2015.
