Thibaut Courtois: This Chelsea star has stepped up a level, he can make the difference

Thibaut Courtois lavishes praise on Diego Costa following his recent fine form for Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois has lavished praise on Diego Costa for his strong start to the season with Chelsea.

The Blues striker has been in superb form for the west London side this term and has already scored more than 10 goals for Chelsea to help them mount a title challenge.

Costa, like many of his Chelsea team-mates, struggled to produce consistent form last season as the west London side ended up 10th in the Premier League table and without a trophy.

However, Courtois, who also played alongside Costa during the pair’s spells at Atletico Madrid, has been very encouraged by what he has seen from the Spain international so far this season.

Speaking in an interview with Chelsea’s website before Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland, Courtois said: “I remember the year we were champions with Atletico he was very strong, and the year we were champions with Chelsea he was very strong as well.

“This season up to now he has scored very important goals.

“He’s really strong on the ball as well and he dribbles past defenders like it’s nothing, so he’s very strong at the moment and we can only enjoy that and use him as our strength.

“It was a rough time for all the team last year but from January or February Diego was already scoring a lot of goals, and he has just carried that form on.”
