Thierry Henry admits this is a big blow to Arsenal’s title hopes
Thierry Henry says Shkodran Mustafi's hamstring injury is a big blow to Arsenal
Thierry Henry believes that Shkodran Mustafi’s hamstring injury is a big blow to Arsenal heading into the hectic festive period in the Premier League.
The defender is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks after he pulled up in the first half of Saturday’s 3-1 win over Stoke City at The Emirates.
Mustafi has been a regular fixture in the heart of Arsenal’s defence this season following his arrival at the club from Valencia in the summer transfer window.
He appears to have forged a strong partnership with fellow centre-half Laurent Koscielny and has helped Arsenal look more stable at the back.
And former Arsenal star Henry feels that Mustafi’s absence could end up being a significant blow to the Gunners in the coming weeks.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Henry said: “What [Shkodran] Mustafi has brought is stability. Laurent Koscielny was looking for a partner, and we all know how important it is to have someone you are used to playing with.
“What is going to be important in this busy period is keeping all your leaders on the pitch.
“You may look at some of the games later and think they are easy, but trust me, it is not easy to play all those games in the festive period, especially without Mustafi.”
Arsenal finished second in the Premier League table last season and 10 points behind surprise champions Leicester City.
