Thierry Henry delivers honest verdict on Tottenham’s title hopes this season
Thierry Henry has his say on Tottenham's Premier League title hopes this season
Thierry Henry believes that Tottenham will have to tune down their reliance on Harry Kane up front if they want to challenge for the Premier League title this season.
The Lilywhites are looking to mount a serious title bid this season after coming so close to winning the trophy last season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men were Leicester City’s closest challengers for the title for much of the campaign but ended up in third place in the table last term.
Tottenham are looking to go one step further and win the title this season after the disappointment of being knocked out of the Champions League at the group stage earlier this month.
And Henry feels that Spurs will need to become less reliant on Harry Kane to score their goals in the coming weeks and months.
Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Henry said: “Tottenham have drawn a lot of games and people were wondering, ‘is it because Harry Kane wasn’t playing?’ Kane has been playing recently and has scored some goals.
“But in big games, if Harry Kane is not scoring, who will score for them? Someone needs to come in. They signed [Vincent] Janssen – he hasn’t answered the call but you need to give him time to adapt.
“The problem for me, is that Tottenham need a guy who can come off the bench and change the situation.
“Harry Kane knows that if he doesn’t score, normally Tottenham are in trouble.”
Tottenham finished third behind Arsenal and Leicester in the table last season.
