Thierry Henry: Why Zlatan Ibrahimovic holds key to Man United’s top-four bid
The Arsenal legend singles out Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for special praise
Thierry Henry has praised Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s impressive performances in the Premier League and has refused to rule Manchester United out of the top-four race.
The former Sweden international scored either side of half-time to help the 20-time English champions ease to a 2-0 win at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The Red Devils signed the 35-year-old centre-forward in a free transfer from Ligue 1 holders Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
Ibrahimovic has now scored 10 times in his last nine games in all competitions to silence any critics of the veteran striker in the Premier League.
Manchester United are a mere four points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the race to secure a place in next season’s Champions League after the Gunners lost to Everton and Manchester City over the past week.
Former Arsenal striker Henry explained why he has been impressed with Ibrahimovic, adding that the centre-forward is starting to glue with Manchester United’s improving midfield which is an ominous sign in the title race.
“The big man wants to play and he’s showing that you still can do it when you take care of yourself, when you live for the game. He’s not the type of guy who goes out and drinks,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“He tries to perform for his team. The balance for Manchester United at the moment is right. That understanding that they’re starting to have in midfield with Carrick, Herrera and Pogba… I think they can be coming back slowly into the top four.”
