Tony Cascarino: This Chelsea player is now as good as Alexis Sanchez
Tony Cascarino heaps praise on Pedro Rodriguez and the improvements he has made at Chelsea this season
Tony Cascarino believes that Pedro Rodriguez has proved himself to be as good as Alexis Sanchez this season.
The Spain international has been in good form for the west London club this season after being given a chance to shine under new boss Antonio Conte.
Pedro initially struggled to adapt to the rigours of the Premier League following his summer transfer to Chelsea from Barcelona back in August 2015.
However, the winger has been in top form under new Conte and has scored four goals and made five assists in the Premier League this term.
Sanchez is widely regarded to be one of the best attacking players in the Premier League following his transfer from Barcelona to Arsenal in the summer of 2014.
However, Cascarino believes that Pedro is now proving himself to be on a par with his former Barcelona team-mate in England.
Speaking to The Times, Cascarino said: “When Pedro and Alexis Sanchez came to the Premier League from Barcelona, I thought of them as players who were equally good.
“Last season Pedro’s form for Chelsea made that idea look ridiculous, but Antonio Conte seems to have a special skill for helping players to find the best in themselves.
“Pedro looks like the player we saw in Spain now, and you have to give Conte the credit for that.
“The Italian is one of those rare managers who do things that go against what pundits and fans are telling them to do and are proved right, as has been the case with him often putting Pedro in the team ahead of Willian, who was seen as the club’s best player last season.”
Chelsea are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table after winning their last 12 games in the top flight.
