Tottenham legend points out Arsenal always win when this defender plays
Garth Crooks heaps praise on Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin
Arsenal tend to win their Premier League games when Hector Bellerin plays in Arsene Wenger’s side, according to Garth Crooks.
The Spain international came off the bench to replace summer signing Shkodran Mustafi in the 25th minute at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Bellerin made his first Premier League appearance since a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby in November after he contending with an ankle injury.
The former Barcelona full-back teed up Theo Walcott to score Arsenal’s equaliser at the Emirates Stadium following Charlie Adam’s opener from the penalty spot before Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi sealed three points after half-time.
Ex Tottenham forward Crooks lavished praise on Bellerin following the right-back’s performance against the Potters.
“When Hector Bellerin plays for Arsenal they tend to win. His quality of pass is so good when he is in the final third of the pitch, it’s quite impressive,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“The substitute had only been on the pitch for a few minutes, having come back from injury, and he was causing Stoke all kinds of problems down the right.
“The full-back then produced the most wonderful ball for Theo Walcott to equalise and almost immediately set up a chance for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who should have done better. Bellerin is a fabulous talent and earned his place in the Arsenal team.”
Bellerin has made two assists in 12 Premier League appearances in the 2016-17 season so far.
The Gunners finished in second place in the Premier League table last season but finished 10 points behind eventual champions Leicester City.
Arsenal signed five players in the summer transfer window.
