Paul Merson states prediction for Watford v Tottenham

The Arsenal legend says he expects Tottenham Hotspur to ease to a comfortable win against Watford

Paul Merson has backed Tottenham Hotspur to ease to a 3-0 win against Watford at Vicarage Road on New Year’s Day.

Spurs came from behind to ease to a 4-1 win against 10-man Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday night thanks to Dele Alli’s two goals.

Tottenham have won their last three Premier League fixtures after Mauricio Pochettino’s side beat Swansea City and Burnley at White Hart Lane.

The north London side started the weekend a point behind fourth-placed Arsenal ahead of the Gunners’ home clash against Crystal Palace at The Emirates on Saturday.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson can’t see past a Tottenham victory over Watford at Vicarage Road in the Premier League on New Year’s Day.

“I saw Watford against Crystal Palace and they looked pretty abject. For Tottenham, going 1-0 down at St Mary’s and then to play the way they did – chipping away – they looked brilliant,” Merson told Sky Sports.

Tottenham finished in third place in the Premier League table last season after challenging Leicester City for the title throughout much of the campaign.
