Wenger delivers latest update on Arsenal transfers ahead of January window
Arsene Wenger insists that he has no plans to replace Santi Cazorla in the January transfer window
Arsene Wenger has insisted that Santi Cazorla’s injury setback will not force him to dip into the January transfer market with Arsenal.
The Spanish playmaker is expected to be sidelined for at least two months after the north London club confirmed on Thursday that the midfielder requires surgery in Sweden to correct an ankle problem.
Cazorla has been missing for Arsenal since October and the news that he will be out for a further period will come as a big blow to the north London side.
His spell on the sidelines prompted suggestions that Arsenal could dip into the transfer market in search of a replacement in the new year.
However, Wenger has played down the chances of that happening as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday morning at Arsenal’s training ground, Wenger said: “Not really, no [Cazorla will not be replaced].
In midfield we have many players.
“There are two reasons – first of all we have the number and the quality and secondly, in the January transfer market, you will not necessarily find a Cazorla, even if you wanted to.”
The Gunners boss is currently preparing his Arsenal team for their Premier League trip to West Ham on Saturday night.
