Paul Merson states his prediction for West Ham v Arsenal
Paul Merson looks ahead to West Ham's home clash against Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday
Paul Merson is tipping Arsenal to make it back to back wins in the Premier League by beating West Ham United 2-1 at the London Stadium on Saturday night.
The north London side head into the game on the back of their 3-1 victory over Bournemouth last weekend at The Emirates.
Arsene Wenger’s side were, however, dumped out of the EFL Cup in midweek as they lost 2-0 to Southampton in front of their home fans.
Arsenal are currently three points behind leaders Chelsea heading into this weekend’s round of Premier League games.
The north Londoners were held to draws by Tottenham, Manchester United and PSG last month.
But former Arsenal star Merson believes that Wenger’s men will have too much for the Hammers on Saturday night.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “What is happening at West Ham? They came away with a point at Old Trafford but didn’t deserve it. They rode their luck and then they were so poor in the cup game.
“However, this isn’t a gimme for Arsenal as West Ham will make them work hard for it and it could be interesting to see if Andy Carroll is fit to start. He will cause problems.
“It’s easy to forget that Arsenal struggled for long periods against Bournemouth and Sunderland. But I fancy they may just nick this one.”
Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League for the first time since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
The Gunners ended up second in the table but without a trophy last season.
