Willian credits Arsenal with helping Chelsea to find form
Willian says Chelsea's loss to Arsenal in the Premier League in September sparked an upturn in form
Willian has claimed that Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Arsenal earlier in the season proved to be a key turning point in the Blues’ season.
The Blues suffered a 3-0 loss to the Gunners at The Emirates just days after being beaten 2-1 by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
The back to back defeats raised serious questions of new manager Antonio Conte but the Blues have since been in fine form and won their next nine games on the spin following the loss to Arsenal at The Emirates on 24 September.
Chelsea are currently leading the way at the top of the Premier League table and are understandably now one of the favourites to win the title this season.
And Willian feels that Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal ended up being a turning point in the west London club’s campaign.
Willian is quoted as saying by Metro: “That moment against Arsenal was difficult because we lost and we started to think ‘what do we have to do, what’s going on?’
“We changed the system and that helped our football a lot. Our players feel fresher and fitter to play.
“Conte has brought a lot of physical stuff to the team. He likes to work hard on the pitch and every day he wants to improve.
“He is doing a great job for Chelsea. It’s his first year and now we are top of the league. We have to keep going.”
Chelsea’s solid form is in stark contrast to their struggles last season, when they ended up 10th and with their title defence in tatters.
