Willian hails Chelsea’s ‘great mentality’ under Antonio Conte

The Chelsea forward reflects on the Premier League leaders' 3-1 victory over title rivals Manchester City on Saturday

Willian has hailed Chelsea’s great mentality after Saturday afternoon’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City.

The Blues conceded a first-half goal for the second time in successive weeks after Gary Cahill put the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

However, Chelsea responded in the second half after Diego Costa levelled the top of the table clash at the Etihad Stadium with a clinical finish.

Willian came off the bench to give the visitors a slight advantage with a super goal on the counter-attack in the 70th minute at Eastlands.

2015 PFA player of the year Eden Hazard sealed three points with another goal on the break to end Manchester City’s resistance.

Brazil international Willian was impressed with Chelsea’s resilience to come from a goal down to beat their title rivals at The Etihad.

“It’s always difficult to play here, but we came with a great mentality to play this game. The first half was difficult, but in the second half we played more confidently,” Willian told Chelsea’s website.

“We did well with and without the ball, and we scored goals. That’s always good for us.

“It was a great ball [for his goal], there was space and Diego made a great assist for me and I finished well.

“I feel good now. There have been difficult moments for me and my family and it’s good for me and for the team to go on the pitch again, to score a goal and to help my team-mates.”

Chelsea are three points clear of second-placed Arsenal after their 3-1 win against title rivals Manchester City.
