Alan Shearer: This Chelsea star was angry in the right way
The Premier League legend says Diego Costa's goal epitomised everything good about the Chelsea striker
Alan Shearer has hailed Diego Costa’s goal in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Stoke City on New Year’s Eve.
The Spain international sealed three points for the west London side and a 13th consecutive Premier League victory after Costa scored in 85th minute at Stamford Bridge.
Costa managed to muscle his way past the Stoke defence before firing past goalkeeper Lee Grant to take his tally to 14 goals in 18 Premier League appearances this term.
The Spanish forward has played a key role in Chelsea’s title push this season and has rediscovered his best form under new manager Antonio Conte.
Speaking on Match of the Day following Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Stoke on New Year’s Eve, Shearer was full of praise for the Blues star after another influential performance.
“This goal summed up Diego Costa’s performances this season. It had aggression, it had power and it had one hell of a finish. It was all with the right aggression. He was angry in the right way,” Shearer said.
Chelsea are six points clear of their closest rivals Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
The Blues will make the short trip to Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League fixture at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
