Antonio Conte addresses possibility of two Chelsea transfers happening
The Chelsea boss speaks out about the possibility of Asmir Begovic and Branislav Ivanovic securing transfers away from Stamford Bridge
Antonio Conte says he will respect the decision of Asmir Begovic and Branislav Ivanovic if the Chelsea pair decide to leave Stamford Bridge in January.
Both Begovic and Ivanovic started the west London side’s 4-0 win against Championship side Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday afternoon.
In fact, the Serbian defender even managed to get on the score sheet after the right-back netted Chelsea’s third goal after earlier strikes from Willian and Pedro Rodriguez had put the home side in control.
Summer signing Michy Batshuayi completed the rout with a penalty in the 81st minute as Chelsea booked their place in the fifth round of the competition.
Chelsea goalkeeper Begovic has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in recent weeks in search of regular first-team football, while the Blues have been touted as making an offer for Celtic’s Craig Gordon.
Ivanovic is also reportedly keen to leave Chelsea after nine years in the English capital after falling out-of-favour under Conte.
Speaking to Bein Sports about the Chelsea duo’s futures, Conte said:
“It is difficult to make a decision but we must respect every decision for the players. Ivanovic is a legend here.
“He has played a lot of games and won a lot. In this season he is not playing in the same way as the last few years. We must wait over these next three days and we will see. It is the same for Asmir. He is important for us. In his position we need to find the right substitution, otherwise he is happy to stay with us.”
