Antonio Conte makes honest admission about Nathan Ake at Chelsea

Antonio Conte admits that he opted to bring Nathan Ake back to Chelsea because it is tough to sign players in January

Antonio Conte has admitted that he opted to bring Nathan Ake back to Chelsea this month because it is notoriously difficult to sign players in the January transfer window.

Ake impressed during his loan spell with Bournemouth in the first half of the season and earned plenty of praise for his displays for Eddie How’s men.

His performances at Bournemouth clearly did not go unnoticed by Chelsea boss Conte as the Italian opted to recall the defender back to Stamford bridge from his loan spell early.

And Conte has lifted the lid on why he opted to bring Ake back to Stamford Bridge this month.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website before Saturday’s trip to Chelsea, Conte said: “Ake has improved a lot in the last one-and-a-half years and I felt it was right for him to come back.

“Also, in January, the market is not easy, so I took the opportunity for us to bring him back.”

Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League table as they look to win the title in Conte’s first campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ upturn in form this season has been in stark contrast to their struggles last term, when they ended up 10th in the table.
