Antonio Conte reacts to Cesc Fabregas’ display for Chelsea against Stoke
Antonio Conte has his say about Cesc Fabregas' performance for Chelsea against Stoke on Saturday
Antonio Conte has insisted that his decision to substitute Cesc Fabregas during Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Stoke on Saturday was purely tactical.
The Spaniard enjoyed another fine performance for the west London side as Conte’s men continued their brilliant form in the Premier League.
Fabregas played 73 minutes and notched up two assists for his team-mates during the win before being brought off by Conte at Stamford Bridge.
There were a few eyebrows raised at the substitution considering the big impact that the 29-year-old had had on the game.
However, Conte explained afterwards his reasons for bringing Fabregas off against the Potters.
Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “Cesc took a yellow card and it was a moment of the game where I preferred to call Matic to help us deal with the long balls.
“I’m pleased with the performance, attitude and commitment of my players. I think they deserved it but now it’s important to continue.
“In three days we have another tough game against Tottenham. Tonight we celebrate the New Year and tomorrow we start to think about Tottenham.”
Chelsea are now gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
The Blues have won their last 13 games in a row in the top flight to establish themselves as the firm favourites to win the title.
