Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea players about taking opportunity
The Chelsea manager says some of his second string will get a chance to impress against Brentford in the FA Cup on Saturday
Antonio Conte has urged Chelsea’s fringe players to seize their chance to impress against Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
The Blues is expected to rest some of his big-names in order to keep his players fresh for their trip to title rivals Liverpool in their next Premier League game at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The FA Cup represents the chance for players like Belgium striker Michy Batshuayi and Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas to stake a claim for a regular starting spot.
Chelsea were 4-1 winners against Championship side Peterborough United in the previous round as the west London outfit look to secure a Premier League and FA Cup double.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference at Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon, Conte discussed what he wanted his fringe players to do against Brentford in the fifth-round clash.
“Every competition must be a priority for us. To have another competition with the league is very important, because also this season we didn’t play in the Champions League or the Europa League,” Conte said.
“Tomorrow it’s an opportunity for me to see many players that are not playing, but we want to win and go into the next step. I try to make the best decision with our team tomorrow.”
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal.
