Antonio Conte: This Chelsea star is proving he’s a great player, he’s got great commitment
The Chelsea manager singles out Pedro Rodriguez for special praise
Antonio Conte has heaped praise on Pedro Rodriguez for the winger’s performance in Chelsea’s 4-0 win against Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.
The Blues midfielder was asked to play out-of-position at wing-back for the visit of the Championship side and the World Cup winner produced a versatile performance at Stamford Bridge.
Remarkably, Pedro scored the west London side’s second goal of the fourth-round clash despite being asked to play in an unfamiliar role after the Spain international netted following Willian’s opener.
The 29-year-old has scored five goals and has made five assists in 19 appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign.
Speaking to the media after Chelsea’s landslide win against Brentford at Stamford Bridge, Conte heaped praise on Pedro after the manager asked the winger to play at wing-back.
“We are finding out a great player that can play in different positions. To see him as a wing-back is not usual, like Moses at the start of the season. It shows me he has great commitment, form and quality,” said Conte.
“Pedro plays very well as a wing-back or as a winger. Now I have a problem for Tuesday!”
Chelsea are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Reds were 3-1 winners against Chelsea earlier this season.
