Antonio Conte’s honest response when asked if Chelsea will make January signings
The Chelsea manager discusses the possibility of bringing in some signings
Antonio Conte admits he is still unsure whether Chelsea will make any signings in the January transfer window.
The Blues have been linked with a move for Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon in recent days after it emerged that number two Asmir Begovic could leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular first-team football.
The west London have also been touted as a potential destination for Alvaro Morata after the Real Madrid striker asked his agent to find him a new club following a tough spell following his return to los Blancos.
Chelsea signed five players in the summer transfer window following Conte’s appointment, including the £32m acquisition of David Luiz from Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
Speaking at his media conference ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup fixtures, Conte provided an update on Chelsea’s potential transfer dealings.
“I don’t know,” Conte said.
“There is a lot of speculation, a lot of lies but also some truth. There are four days to finish the window and then we will see the new situation.
“I don’t know what will happen by the end of this window. I have read a lot of good names in the newspaper. Sometimes you know more than me about this.”
Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and eight points clear of their closest rivals Arsenal.
