Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger responds to Liverpool transfer rumour
Arsene Wenger denies claims that Arsenal could be set to sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Liverpool in January
Arsene Wenger has poured cold water on speculation suggesting that Liverpool could be set to make a January transfer bid to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal.
The 23-year-old midfielder was touted as a possible target for the Merseyside outfit last week as Jurgen Klopp ponders bolstering his squad at Anfield this month.
However, the Liverpool boss spoke out and denied the rumours at his pre-match news conference on Thursday in the build-up to their clash with Manchester City at Anfield.
And Arsenal boss Wenger has followed suit by rubbishing the speculation and suggesting that Oxlade-Chamberlain’s long-term future is at The Emirates.
Asked directly about the rumours linking the midfielder with Liverpool, Wenger told Arsenal’s website: “No. We have all to face a lot of wrong information, you like me, we have to live with that. But we cannot influence that.”
Arsenal are looking to go one better in the Premier League this season after they finished second and without a trophy last term.
The north London side have not won the Premier League title since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
