Arsenal considering move for Portugal defender to rival Hector Bellerin – report

Arsenal are considering a move to sign on-loan Nice defender Ricardo Pereira to rival Hector Bellerin, say reports

Arsenal are weighing up a move to sign Porto defender Ricardo Pereira as competition for Hector Bellerin, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Star is reporting that Arsene Wenger is interested in signing the Portugal international after the full-back’s impressive spell on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice.

The same article states that the north London side are willing to listen to offers for France international Mathieu Debuchy as Wenger looks to free up space in his Arsenal squad.

Pereira was omitted from Portugal’s Euro 2016 squad but the 23-year-old defender has proven a key player in Nice’s rise to the top of Ligue 1 alongside Mario Balotelli.

The Portuguese defender has scored one goal and has made three assists in 15 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

Bellerin was heavily criticised for his poor performance in Arsenanl’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Tuesday night after the Spanish full-back was at fault for two of the south coast club’s goals.
