Mark Lawrenson states prediction for Arsenal v Watford
The former Liverpool defender is backing Arsenal to ease to victory over Watford at The Emirates on Sunday
Mark Lawrenson is backing Arsenal to continue their good run when Arsene Wenger’s side host Watford at The Emirates on Tuesday evening.
The Gunners will look to beat the Hornets and keep pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea ahead of their short trip to Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
Arsenal were 5-0 winners against EFL Cup finalists Southampton on Saturday evening thanks to Danny Welbeck’s brace and Theo Walcott’s hat-trick at St Mary’s.
Arsene Wenger’s side are in second place in the Premier League table but eight points adrift of London rivals Chelsea in the title race.
However, the Gunners will be hoping Liverpool can do them a favour with victory over Chelsea on Tuesday night before Arsenal face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Arsenal’s home clash against Watford, ex-Liverpool defender Lawrenson issued his backing for the north London side.
“Arsenal, meanwhile, are on a good run of results again. They have won six out of their past seven games, and drew the other one,” Lawrenson said.
“The best news for Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, though, is he has a full squad to choose from apart from Santi Cazorla, who is still a few weeks away from a return.
“They will have competition for places and this is a great time of the season for them to kick on.”
Arsenal signed five players in the summer transfer window following their second-place finish last term.
