Paul Merson states prediction for Arsenal v Watford

Paul Merson doesn't expect Watford to cause Arsenal any problems on Tuesday night

Paul Merson is confident Arsenal will ease to a comfortable win against Watford in their Premier League clash at The Emirates on Tuesday night.

The Gunners warmed up for their return to top-flight action with an emphatic 5-0 win against EFL Cup finalists Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday evening.

Danny Welbeck scored twice in the opening 22 minutes before Theo Walcott completed a hat-trick against his former employers to book the north London side’s place in the fifth round.

Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table but eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Tuesday night’s Premier League action, Merson tipped Arsenal to secure a comfortable three points against Watford.

“Watford have hit a brick wall and are one of the teams I fear may be relegated,” Merson said.

“They’ve got a few points to play with but you always get a team that starts sliding, and they are the team that seem to be doing that at the moment. Playing away at Millwall on Sunday and then at Arsenal on Tuesday is tough, 48 hours to recover is ridiculous.”

Merson added: “I can’t see anything other than an Arsenal win, despite the Gunners flattering to deceive in recent weeks. That being said, they could be two points behind Chelsea if results go their way this week.”
