Arsene Wenger confirms Rob Holding will not be leaving Arsenal on loan in the January transfer window
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Rob Holding will not be leaving Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The English defender has found his first-team opportunities at Arsenal to be limited this season following his move to the club from Bolton Wanderers last summer.
Holding has made a total of seven appearances for the north London side this term following his summer move and will be hoping to earn some more regular playing time in the coming months.
However, Wenger has claimed that it would be too early to send the 21-year-old out on loan and insisted revealed that he plans to keep the defender at the club for the rest of the season.
Wenger is quoted as saying by The Daily Express: “I rate him highly.
“I think he’s learning his job at the moment at the top level and overall I think he has done extremely well. I believe that he has a bright future at this club.
“People say often, ‘Is he to go out on loan or not?’ I think it’s too early for him to go out on loan.
“I think it’s very interesting for him to see how people behave, how Premier League top teams work.
“He has improved the speed of his game and the speed of his understanding of the game. As well his aggression level has gone up and he knows that you cannot lose a decisive fight at that level.
“He develops as well by being in touch with players like Koscielny, like Mustafi, like Gabriel, Mertesacker – all experienced centre backs. They teach him as well.”
Arsenal are currently in fifth place in the Premier League and eight points behind leaders Chelsea after 20 games of the new season.
The north London side finished second and without a trophy last term.
