Arsene Wenger explains why Hector Bellerin did not play for Arsenal at Preston
Arsene Wenger reveals that Hector Bellerin suffered an injury in training ahead of Arsenal's trip to Preston
Arsene Wenger has revealed that Hector Bellerin picked up an injury in Arsenal’s final training session before their FA Cup clash against Preston North End on Saturday.
The Spaniard was not involved for the Gunners as Wenger’s men came from a goal down to earn a 2-1 victory in the third round clash and book their place in the fourth-round draw.
Bellerin has been ever-present in the Arsenal side this season but his absence allowed Ainsley Maitland-Niles to start the game in his place.
And speaking to BT Sport immediately after Saturday’s win, Wenger explained Bellerin’s absence.
He said: “Bellerin was injured yesterday in training.”
Arsenal fell behind in the seventh minute at Deepdale when Callum Robinson slotted home from close range to put the home side ahead.
However, the Gunners fought back after half-time and equalised when Aaron Ramsey drilled home from the edge of the box.
And Olivier Giroud had the final say when he smashed home from close range after being found by Lucas Perez’s superb backheel, to net his fourth goal in as many games.
