Arsene Wenger replies when asked if Arsenal could mimic Chelsea style

Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal are capable of following Chelsea's lead and switching to a 3-4-3 formation

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal are capable of following Chelsea’s example and playing three at the back.

The west London club have earned plenty of praise in recent months after switching to a 3-4-3 formation following their 3-0 defeat by Arsenal back in September.

The Blues have not looked back and have firmly established themselves as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season.

Chelsea are flying high at the top of the table and are eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal heading into this week’s fixtures.

And the Gunners boss has insisted that the north London side are more than capable of following their local rivals’ lead and adopting their formation.

Wenger is quoted as saying by Metro: “We can play with three at the back, yes.

“We have Gabriel, we have Mertesacker, we have Holding, we have of course Koscielny and Mustafi. When needed we can do that.

“But we are a team who are focused on an offensive game. Overall, we like always to go forward and have numbers in the middle of the park and up front.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action on Tuesday night with a home clash against Watford at The Emirates.
