Arsene Wenger sends message to Arsenal fans about Alexis Sanchez
Arsene Wenger moves to play down concerns about Alexis Sanchez in the wake of Arsenal's draw with Bournemouth
Arsene Wenger has moved to play down concerns about Alexis Sanchez after the Chile international was pictured as furious following Arsenal’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday night.
Sanchez was pictured throwing his gloves to the floor as he stormed off the pitch after the final whistle following Arsenal’s remarkable three-goal comeback against the Cherries.
Arsenal were 3-0 down after half-time but goals from Sanchez, Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud earned the north London side a point.
Sanchez is out of contract in the summer of 2018 and is yet to pen a new deal at The Emirates.
There had been suggestions that Sanchez’s behaviour at the final whistle did not bode well for his future at Arsenal.
However, Wenger moved to play down the significance of Sanchez’s action at the Vitality Stadium.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday morning at Arsenal’s training ground, Wenger said: “What is surprising? We want to win the games, if you don’t you’re not happy. That is normal.
“Without passion you do not come back when you are at 70 minutes and 3-0 down. It is exceptional and you need a special response.
“We are all frustrated. Of course [Sanchez] is fine.”
Arsenal are currently preparing to host Preston North End in the FA Cup third round at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.
