Arsene Wenger sends message to Arsenal fans on Mesut Ozil

Arsene Wenger insists that he is very relaxed about Mesut Ozil's future at Arsenal beyond the summer

Arsene Wenger has insisted that he is “very relaxed” about Mesut Ozil’s future at Arsenal and is confident that the playmaker will sign a new contract at The Emirates.

The Germany international’s future at the club has been a source of speculation in recent weeks after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 18 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

Ozil has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top attacking players following his arrival at the club from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013.

It remains to be seen whether Ozil will commit his future to Arsenal and stay at the club beyond the summer of 2018.

However, Wenger has insisted that he is relaxed about the situation and says that his own future at the club is not necessarily linked to that of Ozil.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday morning at the club’s London Colney training ground, Wenger said: “No, not necessarily [Wenger’s future is not tied to that of Ozil].

“I think he has been a bit misinterpreted. He would like to know what happens on the managerial front of course, but I don’t think that’s the main part of his decision.

“I think it’s part of it but it’s not the only thing. There are many other ingredients in every negotiation. Hopefully we will find a conclusion with him very quickly.”
