Arsene Wenger warns Arsenal rivals: We have plenty of fresh attacking options
The Arsenal manager is pleased with the fresh legs in his attack for the second half of the season
Arsene Wenger believes Olivier Giroud, Lucas Perez, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck can add fresh energy to Arsenal’s attack given their lack of playing time this season.
Welbeck has just returned from a serious knee injury as the England international looks to rival Alexis Sanchez for a place up front in Wenger’s first-team in the second half of the season.
The Chile international has played in all 22 of Arsenal’s Premier League games in the 2016-17 season so far, scoring an impressive 15 goals and making seven assists for team-mates.
Arsenal are in second place in the Premier League table and eight points adrift of leaders Chelsea with 16 games to play in the current campaign.
Speaking at his media conference about Welbeck’s ability to add some fresh legs to the Arsenal side in the second half of the season, Wenger said:
“If he manages to get there [to full fitness] quickly, yes.
“The players who played the most in our team offensively is basically Alexis.
“All the others – Giroud has not played too many games, he is fresh, Walcott is now coming back from a good breather, we have Lucas who has not played many games.
“We have plenty of offensive potential who are fresh. It’s now down to me to use them at the right moment when they are in good form and in the right way.”
Arsenal signed Welbeck in a £16m deal from Manchester United in the 2015 summer transfer window.
The England star has suffered two serious knee injuries during his Gunners career so far.
