Arsene Wenger: What I really think about Chelsea under Antonio Conte
Arsene Wenger gives his take on what he has seen from Antonio Conte's Chelsea side this season
Arsene Wenger has admitted that Chelsea have established themselves as the “super-favourites” to win the Premier League title this season following their fine form under new boss Antonio Conte.
The Blues brought in Conte as their new manager over the summer and the Italian was tasked with steering the west London club back towards the top of English football after their disastrous 10th-placed finish last season.
Conte’s side have firmly established themselves as the favourites to win the Premier League title this season following their sparkling form since the Blues switched to a 3-4-3 formation earlier in the campaign.
The west London side were beaten 3-0 by Arsenal at The Emirates back in September but have since been in superb form.
And Arsenal boss Wenger has been very impressed by what he has seen from the west London side this season.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Wenger said: “At the moment Chelsea is the super-favourite because they are quite big and made a big difference. But it is theirs to lose as we say here in England.
“They can still lose it, at the moment they have won it but they can still lose it. It’s still a long way to go and very difficult for everybody so the head-to-head games [between the biggest teams] will have a vital importance.”
He continued: “They had a little bit of a dodgy start to the season, but since they’ve changed their system they are on a run where confidence plays a big part. If they do [beat Arsenal’s record of 14 straight Premier League wins], you can only say ‘well done’.
“Records are there to be beaten and if somebody does better than you, you have to acknowledge it and say ‘well done’.”
Arsenal finished second and without a trophy last season.
