Cesc Fabregas: This is what I really think about Chelsea defender, he’s fantastic

The Chelsea midfielder has been impressed with Nathan Ake

Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he always considered Nathan Ake to be a fantastic player after the Chelsea defender impressed in a 4-0 win against Brentford in the FA Cup fourth round at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

Chelsea opted to recall Ake from his loan spell at Bournemouth last month after the Netherlands international impressed for Eddie Howe’s side with a return of three goals in 10 appearances in the Premier League for the Cherries.

Antonio Conte opted to bring Ake back from the south coast to provide cover in defence as the Italian continues to stick with a back three in his much-lauded 3-4-3 formation.

Ake started at left wing-back for the visit of Championship side Brentford in the FA Cup on Saturday evening and the Dutch defender helped Chelsea ease to a 4-0 win in west London.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website about Ake’s return to the Chelsea side, experienced Spain international Fabregas was full of praise for the midfielder.

“Fantastic by Ake,’ was Fabregas’s rating of the 21-year-old who was initially at wing-back before moving into the back-three,” Fabregas said.

“Since I have been here he has trained with the team in pre-season and I have always felt that he is a fantastic young player. It is great that all of the young players showed what they can do in games like this and also winning which is important for getting the confidence because it is not easy.

“We are only playing in the Premier League and the FA Cup so it is not easy to have minutes in this team but it was good that a lot of them could have minutes in this game and show the manager what can happen if he needs them.”
