Charlie Nicholas states prediction for Preston v Arsenal
The former Arsenal man warns Arsene Wenger's side that they must progress if they want to win some silverware
Charlie Nicholas has warned Arsene Wenger that Arsenal must progress past Preston North End to keep their hopes of winning silverware alive this season.
The north London side have fallen off the pace in the Premier League title race and dropped out of the top four after Tottenham Hotspur were 2-0 winners against leaders Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
The Gunners are eight points adrift of Antonio Conte’s men despite Arsenal coming from 3-0 down at the Vitality Stadium to rescue a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez, Lucas Perez and Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal endured a disappointing December after their 14-game unbeaten run came to an end following successive 2-1 losses at Everton and Manchester City despite leading in both Premier League fixtures.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, Nicholas tipped Theo Walcott to come in for Sanchez as Arsenal look to avoid any upsets against Preston on Saturday evening.
“I’d expect Theo Walcott to come back in for Sanchez but I wouldn’t think Arsene Wenger will make wholesale changes,” Nicholas said.
“Arsenal need to go for the FA Cup as there might not be anything left for them.”
Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2014 and 2015.
