Mario Melchiot makes admission about Man United in the title race
Mario Melchiot assesses Manchester United's improved title hopes under Jose Mourinho
Mario Melchiot has admitted that Manchester United could be set to become a force in the Premier League title race as they continue to adapt to life under Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils made a slow start to life under Mourinho following his appointment as the club’s new manager back in May.
Manchester United failed to find consistent form in the Premier League in the opening weeks of the season as they fell behind leaders Chelsea.
However, Mourinho now appears to be getting the best out of his team and the Red Devils have won their last six games in the top flight.
Manchester United are still 10 points behind leaders Chelsea but Melchiot feels that the Red Devils are now capable of hauling themselves back into the title race.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Thursday morning, Melchiot said: “They’re starting to pick up points. They’re a totally different team.
“They’re more to his [Mourinho’s] identity. You can’t beat them easily and they will always come back and give you a tough games. That’s normally what he has in his sides. They are hard to beat and they have the character that Mourinho has.”
Manchester United take on Reading in the FA Cup third round on Saturday at Old Trafford.
