Paul Merson states prediction for Chelsea v Brentford
The former Arsenal midfielder is confident Chelsea's second string will be too good for Brentford on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson believes Chelsea will be too good for Brentford in their FA Cup fourth-round clash at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
Chelsea have returned to form in the Premier League after scoring five times and keeping back-to-back clean sheets in victories over Leicester City and Hull City following a 2-0 loss at Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.
Indeed, the Blues have turned in a good performance in the third round when the leaders were 4-1 winners against Championship side Peterborough United in the previous round despite captain John Terry earning a second-half red card.
Chelsea now have the opportunity to complete the Premier League and the FA Cup double in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of Chelsea’s home clash against Brentford, Merson issued his backing for Conte’s side ahead of a big couple of weeks in the Premier League.
“Chelsea have got a couple of big games coming up – Liverpool away before Arsenal at home in the Premier League – but they will be too good for Brentford,” Merson said.
Chelsea are eight points clear of their closest rivals Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
