Charlie Nicholas makes prediction about Willian for Chelsea v Peterborough
The former Arsenal man is backing Willian to prove a point to Chelsea manager Antonio Conte against Peterborough
Charlie Nicholas is backing Willian to prove to Antonio Conte that he should be starting ahead of Pedro Rodriguez when Chelsea host Peterborough in their FA Cup third-round clash on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues will host the League One side at Stamford Bridge as the west London outfit look to make a swift return to winning ways after a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Chelsea made the short trip to White Hart Lane in search of a record-equalling 14th successive Premier League victory to extend the Blues’s lead to eight points at the top of the table.
However, Dele Alli scored either side of half-time to secure a vital three points for Tottenham and condemn Chelsea to their first defeat since a 3-0 loss at Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in September.
Writing in his Sky Sports column, Nicholas singled out Willian as a player with a point to prove when Chelsea host Peterborough on Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t see problems flaring up at Chelsea after the Tottenham loss and we’ll see that the likes of Michy Batshuayi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry will all be ready to come in and perform.
“Peterborough are a team who can score a few goals in their league but they’ve been really disappointing in recent weeks and I see it being a long afternoon for them.
“I’d look at somebody like Willian to produce and prove why he should be starting ahead of Pedro.”
