Chris Smalling issues rallying cry ahead of Man United v Liverpool

Chris Smalling says Manchester United will be at their best when they host Liverpool on Sunday

Chris Smalling is confident that Manchester United will be able to produce their best football when they host Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils head into the game in fine form after having won their last nine games in all competitions.

Jose Mourinho’s men have earned plenty of praise for their consistent performances in recent weeks after initially struggling to click into gear earlier in the campaign.

Manchester United now turn their attentions towards their crunch clash against Liverpool on Sunday after securing a 2-0 win over Hull City in their EFL Cup semi-final clash on Tuesday night.

And Manchester United defender Smalling is confident that Mourinho’s men will be able to be at their best against the Reds at Old Trafford this weekend.

Speaking in an interview with MUTV, Smalling said: “Before facing Reading on Saturday we knew that we had three games in three different competitions.

“We knew that if we could keep the winning run going then we couldn’t have more confidence going into one of the biggest games of the season. Everyone is really up for it.

“Now we can switch our attention to that game. I think we’ll recover on Wednesday, then we have a good few days to work on the tactics on how to nullify their threats and to really impact our own play to keep this run going.

“We know how important this game is at the top end of that table.”

Manchester United are currently in sixth place in the Premier League but know that a win over Liverpool would cut the gap to the Reds down to two points.
