Chris Sutton: Arsene Wenger would be foolish to sell this Arsenal star
The former Chelsea striker believes Olivier Giroud has a big role to play at Arsenal in the 2016-17 season
Chris Sutton has warned Arsene Wenger that he would be foolish to get rid of Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
The France international failed to start a Premier League game until December after Giroud has been limited to a role from the bench following Alexis Sanchez’s impressive goal-scoring run in a centre-forward role.
However, Wenger turned to Giroud following back-to-back losses at Everton and Manchester City to leave their title bid in doubt.
The 30-year-old centre-forward scored a late winner on his first Premier League start of the season to seal a 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion.
Giroud netted an incredible scorpion goal to break the deadlock in their 2-0 win against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day before again finding the net against Bournemouth in Tuesday’s 3-3 draw.
Discussing Giroud’s future at Arsenal, Sutton claimed that Wenger would be silly to dispose of the Frenchman’s services.
“Arsenal would be foolish to discard Giroud. They’re lucky to have him,” Sutton told BBC’s 606 podcast.
Giroud has scored five times in 12 appearances in the Premier League this season despite making just two starts.
