Diego Costa reveals the ‘secret’ to Chelsea’s great form this season

Diego Costa explains why he feels Chelsea have performed so well so far this season

Diego Costa says that the motivation to improve on last season’s disappointment is the main reason behind Chelsea’s upturn in form this term.

The Blues have been in superb form in the Premier League since Antonio Conte’s appointment as the club’s new manager over the summer.

The west London side headed into 2017 top of the Premier League table and having established themselves as the firm favourites to win the title this term.

Costa has been one of Chelsea’s star performers this season and was voted as the Premier League’s player of the month for November for his sparkling displays.

It is all in stark contrast to Chelsea’s struggles last term, when the Blues ended up in 10th place in the Premier League table, without a trophy and with their title defence in tatters.

And Costa feels that last season’s disappointment has proved a key source of motivation for Chelsea’s players this season.

Speaking to Chelsea’s website, Costa said: “I felt we like had something to prove coming into this season. Last season we left a debt behind, so to speak.

“And that’s the secret to our great form this season.

“We owe a lot to our people and we are hoping we are going to be able to pay that back.”
