Dietmar Hamann: What Jose Mourinho has done to help Man United
The former Liverpool midfielder explains what Jose Mourinho has done differently at Manchester United in recent weeks
Dietmar Hamann believes Jose Mourinho’s decision to take a step back has helped his Manchester United players find their stride under the new manager.
The Red Devils were 2-0 winners against Hull City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini.
The 20-time English champions have now recorded nine wins on the spin in all competitions to boost Manchester United’s prospects both domestically and in Europe.
Mourinho’s side will host their bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in their next Premier League fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Former Liverpool and Manchester City midfielder Hamann has been impressed with how Mourinho has managed to improve Manchester United’s performance in recent months.
“I haven’t got a problem with Jose Mourinho. He has his own way of doing things. I think he took a step back in the last few weeks which helped his team settle down and create a better atmosphere than it was at the start of the season,” Hamann told Sky Sports News HQ.
Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of the top four.
Mourinho’s side are still 10 points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea as Manchester United look to catch their manager’s former employers.
