Eric Dier makes bold Tottenham claim about Dele Alli
The Tottenham defender believes Dele Alli was in better form last season despite his sparkling performances in recent weeks
Eric Dier believes Dele Alli was in better form last season despite the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s goal-scoring heroics in recent weeks.
The England midfielder scored either side of half-time in Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Chelsea in the Premier League last week to help Mauricio Pochettino’s move to within seven points of the leaders.
Alli has scored five goals in his last three Premier League games to help the Lilywhites ease to five successive top-flight victories and kick-start their title challenge.
The 20-year-old has already scored 10 goals in 19 games in the Premier League this term to match his tally from the 2015-16 campaign.
However, Tottenham defender Dier believes Alli was in better form last term despite his current performances leading to speculation linking the England star with a move to La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“Dele is scoring a lot of goals which has put him in the headlines but I’m not sure if it’s the best form he’s shown,” Dier told The Daily Mirror.
“Last season there were times when he was fantastic as well but he can do better as well. I’m sure he can.”
Alli moved to Tottenham in a £5m deal from MK Dons in 2015.
The Tottenham midfielder won the PFA young player of the year award for his performances throughout the 2015-16 season.
