Ex-Chelsea coach explains why he is not a big fan of Marcos Alonso
Ray Wilkins is not Marcos Alonso's biggest fan at Chelsea...
Ray Wilkins has admitted that he is not Marcos Alonso’s biggest fan following the Spaniard’s arrival at Chelsea last summer.
The Spanish defender arrived at Stamford Bridge from Fiorentina back in September as Antonio Conte moved quickly to bolster his defensive options at the west London club.
Alonso has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea team so far this season and has made 15 Premier League appearances for the Blues this term.
However, former Chelsea coach Wilkins is not the 26-year-old’s biggest fan and revealed that he would have preferred to see Ryan Bertrand stay at the west London club.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Wilkins said: “I’m not a lover of Alonso. I don’t think Bertrand should have left.
“They’ve spent £50m trying to replace Ryan and they sold him for £10m. So I’m not a great fan of Alonso – he’s doing OK.
“But will Nathan Ake come in? They won 13 on the spin with Alonso in the side so I don’t see him getting in.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their Premier League clash against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Saturday as they look to get back to winning ways in the top flight.
The Blues finished 10th and without a trophy last season.
