Ex-Chelsea coach: I’ve never seen a player like N’Golo Kante
Ray Wilkins has been hugely impressed by what he has seen from N'Golo Kante this season at Chelsea
Ray Wilkins has admitted that he has never seen a player have such a big impact on teams as Chelsea star N’Golo Kante.
The French midfielder has been in superb form for the west London club this season following his summer transfer to the club from Leicester City.
Kante has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea side this term after having earned plenty of new admirers at Leicester last season as the Foxes won the title.
The midfielder has already made 18 Premier League appearances for Chelsea this term and played the full 90 minutes as the Blues beat Stoke City 4-2 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
And former Chelsea coach Wilkins has been hugely impressed by Kante’s impact at Stamford Bridge this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday, Wilkins said: “I never thought I would see one player have such a massive effect on two teams in a couple of seasons as N’Golo Kante.
“I said at the end of last season they’d [Leicester City] be better off selling Mahrez or Vardy and keeping Kante. He was so instrumental in their [title] victory.
“He’s gone to Chelsea and he’s been absolutely outstanding. For me, in a couple of years he’ll be a better Claude Makelele and that’s a bit of a statement.
“Claude was a basically a defensive midfielder that broke things up, he was a bit of Rottweiler.
“This guy is a bit of a Rottweiler but he has also has the ability to pass and score. And his energy, his energy is phenomenal.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
