Ex-Chelsea midfielder: What exceptional Antonio Conte must have found hard

Joe Cole has hailed Antonio Conte as an exceptional manager after successfully transforming the Chelsea side in his image.

The Blues head coach took over the reins from interim Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink after their disappointing tenth-place finish last term.

Conte signed five players in the summer transfer window as the Italian looked to build a squad capable of challenging for the title.

The ex-Juventus boss was his opening three Premier League games in charge of the west London side before back-to-back defeats by title rivals Liverpool and Arsenal.

Conte switched to a 3-4-3 formation and Chelsea haven’t looked back since with an incredible 13-game winning run before a 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane earlier this month.

However, Chelsea have still managed to win 15 of their last 16 games in the Premier League to leave them eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal in the title race.

Speaking to CFC Fan TV about Conte’s impact at Chelsea, Cole said:

“I would have done. You have to give him credit. He has come over to a new country. His English is good but it must be so hard because he is such an expressive man.

“I imagine most of his management skills is his emotional connection and how he speaks to people. To go to another country and do it that shows how exceptional he is. He has set the team up and already the team have his personality.”
