Pundit: Antonio Conte will make big Chelsea signings to secure the title
Chris Sutton is confident that Chelsea will spend some significant money on new signings in January
Chris Sutton says he wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea spend a lot of money in the January transfer window to secure the Premier League title.
The Blues haven’t put a foot wrong in the title race in recent weeks following a run of 13 successive top-flight victories to leave Antonio Conte’s side six points clear of their title rivals at the end of New Year’s Day.
Chelsea have already beaten title rivals Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks ahead of their trip to White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
One criticism of the west London side has been their reliance on key players such as Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante, which has led to calls for Conte to strengthen his squad in January.
Former Chelsea striker Sutton is tipping the Blues to invest in new playing staff in January in order to secure their first Premier League title under the Italian coach.
“If Chelsea keep Costa and Hazard fit, they’ll win the league but it wouldn’t surprise me if Chelsea go big in January,” Sutton told BBC Radio’s 606 podcast.
“It’s there for Chelsea to win the title. Spending big money is an option. It may well secure the title for Chelsea.”
Chelsea haven’t lost a Premier League game since a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal in September.
