Ex-defender reacts to Diego Costa’s display in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Hull on Twitter

Mario Melchiot singles out Chelsea striker Diego Costa for special praise

Mario Melchiot hailed Diego Costa’s performance in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Hull City upon the striker’s return to Antonio Conte’s starting line-up.

The Spain international missed the west London side’s 3-0 win against defending champions Leicester City last weekend due to a back injury, although reports in the British media claimed that Costa had fallen out with manager Antonio Conte about interest from China.

Costa was named in Conte’s starting XI on Sunday afternoon and the centre-forward repaid his manager’s faith with a first-half strike to take his tally to 15 goals in the 2016-17 season so far.

Victor Moses picked out Costa in the Hull area and the 28-year-old striker curled a finish into the net before Gary Cahill’s 80th-minute header sealed three points for the hosts.

Ex-Chelsea defender Melchiot took to Twitter to heap praise on Costa.

Chelsea are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and eight points clear of second-placed Arsenal.

The Blues finished in tenth place last term.
