Garth Crooks: This Tottenham defender looks so good, he loves to get involved
The Tottenham legend has been impressed with Kyle Walker's performances from right-back
Garth Crooks have heaped praise on Tottenham defender Kyle Walker after the full-back’s impressive performance in Saturday afternoon’s 4-0 win against West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane.
The England international is a regular in Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team after the defender established himself as Tottenham’s automatic right-back choice.
Walker teed up Harry Kane for his second goal in a 4-0 victory over the Baggies after the Tottenham striker scored his first hat-trick of the 2016-17 season.
The 26-year-old defender has made five assists in 20 appearances in the current campaign to help Tottenham secure second place in the Premier League table.
Writing in his BBC Sport column, former Tottenham striker Crooks singled out Walker for special praise after his marauding performances from right-back to help Spurs secure three points at White Hart Lane.
“These new formations that are being so liberally introduced, mostly by foreign managers, are providing such freedom for certain players that their performances have been transformed,” Crooks said.
“I couldn’t tell if Kyle Walker was playing right-back or right-wing. There was even one occasion when he looked like he was actually playing up front.
“There is no doubt that a back three releases the full-backs to go forward – that’s if the defender can play with the ball at his feet of course, which is just as well because Walker loves to get involved. Spurs are looking good at the moment, and so is Walker.”
Tottenham are in second place in the table and seven points from Premier League leaders Chelsea in the title race.
Spurs finished in third place and 11 points behind champions Leicester City last term.
